Building Your Brand

“Building your brand,” is something writers have been schooled on for years now. After all, the more popular you are the more books you can sell. Now it seems that the rest of the professional world is catching on to this whole branding idea. Never before have there been so many possibilities and avenues for branding oneself. Social media is creating wealthy people every single day.

From rock stars to weathermen people are learning that social media is the best and fastest way to interact with their fans. For some a single tweet goes out to millions of fans; while others choose to use a Facebook post or a You Tube video. But, is just using social media enough, or is there a method to all this madness?

As I continue to work on my online retirement income I spend much of my time learning. Learning means growing, and growing my business and becoming self-sufficient is my main goal. Just having tons of friends on Facebook or thousands of people following you on Twitter is not enough. What separates you from any other Joe Blow on the internet is how you interact with your fans and followers. Interact being the key word of today’s blog. Simply throwing a post or tweet out every so often is not interacting in the best possible way. The most successful internet careers are those built on positive interaction.

No matter what business you work in or aspire to work in, positive interaction with your fans and followers is your best tool. Take the time to actually meet the faceless Facebook friends you have. If you only have 15 minutes a day to be on social media, use it wisely. Be nice, there is not enough time to waste any of it being negative. Some people spend a few minutes a day to a few hours a day interacting with fans and followers…and it works. Try it you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You will also make the world a little better place for those around you. Have a nice day. Lowell Henderson

The Real Secret to Change

In this day and age everyone has their own agenda. Unfortunately, all these agendas do not benefit everyone. Our current politicians come to mind first; they seem to be helping no one but themselves. This is also true for most other large organizations, churches, states, and even countries. Will there ever be a way to escape all the private agendas and greed in this world…well, maybe.

I picked up a copy of the Wall Street Journal one day and as I read the story of a writer, the answer to all our problems seemed to be right there on the page. It was quite a long article but I’ll quickly give you the main points.

Paulo Coelho is a 66 year old Brazilian writer. Paulo has sold more than 165 million books, has a net worth of 535 million, and does his own promotion. How can he be so successful promoting himself and how does all this tie in? Well, let’s just say he has being kind and social media figured out pretty well. He has a tremendous following on Twitter with more than 9 million followers and 25.6 million followers on Facebook. This doesn’t even include the other outlets he uses such as Instagram, Tumblr, and so on.

So what is his trick to achieving such a following? The answer is so simple yet so hard for many to grasp. Paulo Coelho is nice to his fans. His daily routine includes interacting with and giving a kind word to at least 30 new people a day. Talk about living the “pay it forward,” lifestyle; this man has it down cold and it works.

Just imagine if this attitude works so well for Paulo, what would our nation be like if we all followed his example? We might not all become multi-millionaires but just think of the wave of happiness that would spread across the land.

535 million just from being nice…makes ya think huh. Have a great day-Lowell Henderson

Just Because It's On Facebook...

Well this morning started out well. Grandbaby that has the flu is feeling better, coffee is hot, and the sun is shining. It’s going to be a great day. Oh and I’m off work today, so that’s a bonus. This subject of this blog is the responsibility of the media. By media I don’t just mean the local and national news, and the tabloids. Social media is just as big a player in the news as any of the other sources.

Social media delivers news often seconds after events happe
n. Just as regular reporters deliver their stories, we social media reporters need to learn to report only the facts. It’s ok to pass along news worthy stories to the public, but, make sure you aren’t passing along speculation. Speculation is often wrong and emotional based and often does more harm than good. Sometime in the near future I hope we discover a news source we can actually trust.

One story that has been reported on and started the rumor mill running wild is the tragic accident of Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Christina. Immediately the rumor mill started. Assuming and speculating is not good reporting and it shows a lack of integrity on the part of those doing it. Reporting or even talking about cases such as this even on social media should be done only with facts. I often wonder where the respect for other humans has gone in this day and age of high technology.
